How to build a bench swing.
This bench swing has adjustable tilt.
It can be adjusted to give varying degrees of comfort depending on whether or not you want to sit up straight or rest back a little.
I first made the this bench swing back in 2003 and has been my most used project. It has stood the test of time and been made by many.
As with other Buildeazy projects, its designed with the home handyman or DIYer in mind.
All joins are secured with bolts and/or screws and nails.
Because of this, the project only requires the most basic of tools to undertake a professional job.

The cutting list in the downloadable file gives a drawing of every different piece of wood along with the dimensions.

Wood and wood sizes

For the most part there are two different types of lumber used in the project: 90mm x 35mm (1-1/2″ x 3-1/2″) treated pine for the frame and 90mm x 20mm (3/4″ x 3-1/2″) hardwood for the seat slats and back slats.
Other:
Also a small amount of 140mm x 20mm (3/4″ x 5-1/2″) treated pine for the arm rest.

Hardware

As well as the lumber in the list above, you will also need…
Two 3600mm (12ft) lengths of galvanized chain
10 galvanized coach (carriage) bolts 10mm (3/8″) x 120mm (5″) long.
A handful of 100mm (4″) nails.
A few 75mm (3″) nails to hold the two end frame members together while drilling and bolting.
92 wood screws approx 35mm (1-1/2″) long for the seat slats, back slats and arm rests.

The seat is 1300mm (51″) long and 445mm (17-1/2″) wide. The overall width is 634mm (25″). The overall height is pretty much up to yourself.

The plans are written in both metric (millimetre) and standard (inch) measurements.
