We like to say there is a tool out there for everyone; it’s all a matter of choosing the right one. That includes “dumb” tools like hammers and shovels along with high-tech equipment like saws.
The DeWalt DCS331B is a highly rated jigsaw that recently caught our eye for several reasons. We’ll touch on those in our DeWalt DCS331B review which will help you decide if this is the right tool for you or if you need something a bit less industrial.

Who is it for?
People that need quick cuts and aren’t overly concerned about precision will appreciate the DeWalt DCS331B. It’s beefy, so it will hold up for years and is powerful enough to get through various types of materials with the right blade.
Power and Speed
We’re pleased to say you will get both power and speed from the DeWalt DCS331B. The horsepower comes from a 6.5 Amp motor which is towards the top of the class in terms of size.
Most heavy-duty jig saws have motors in this range, with mid-range models coming in at between 3-5 Amps. There are a few models more powerful like the Bosch JS470E which has a 7.0 Amp motor but the DeWalt DCS331B’s little power plant is certainly nothing to scoff at.
This model also has a variable speed trigger system. This lets you dial things up to 3,100 strokes per minute or drop it down to a crawl at 500 SPM.
Variable speed triggers are common with this type of tool. In our DeWalt DCS331B review we found that this trigger tends to perform a little better than the rest. It has a nice, solid action and isn’t going to jam up on you or wear your finger out. The DCS331B has a 4-position orbital action system, which is a step above similar models.
Ease of Use
This jig saw is a little heavy at 6.4 pounds. It actually weighs more than some reciprocating saws, but that’s not a bad thing if you care about quality and durability.
It has a counterbalance to keep vibrations to a minimum although we think the thick rubber grip helps as well. We also love the fact it has a built-in dust blower. This ensures your work area stays clean and you can see your cut line at all times.
When you need to change blades, you will be thankful for the heavy-duty keyless blade clamp.
The first thing we want to bring up is the flush-cutting system. This allows you to make precise cuts without up cutting or dealing with extreme vibrations. You will have much cleaner results on flush cuts.
The DeWalt DCS331B also has a range of positive bevel indents set at 0, 15, 30, and 45-degrees. Setting up the shoe for the angle you need is easy with this one. We also like the orbital action system as well.
If you read our guide on reciprocating saws, you already know how important orbital or circular motion can be on saws of this nature. DeWalt realizes this too, so they installed a system that will give you quick, aggressive cuts.
Unlike some power tools, you aren’t going to get much out of the box with a jig saw. There are a few exceptions, but not with the DeWalt DCS331B. You get the saw and a storage box along with a manual, but that’s about it. It is metal, however, which is a nice perk.
That means you will want to pick up some blades beforehand, just make sure they are T-shank blades as others won’t work with this jig saw.
This is one of those times where we really don’t have many negatives to bring up. The DeWalt DCS331B is a little heavy, and while there is no LED light, the blower makes up for that.
Compared to other models at this price point, it strikes all the right notes aside from not having a true guidance system. Some models have things in place to keep you on track, but you’ll need to rely on your skills with this one.
Need a great jig saw that can tear through anything and will look good in your toolbox? If so, the DeWalt DCS331B may be the answer for you. It feels good in the hand, and it’s hard to argue with the power that 6.5 Amp motor provides.
You also get the company’s outstanding 3-year warranty along with a 1-year service contract and 90-days satisfaction guarantee.
